Retirement Announcement: Stephen Field - Director of Pensions and Chief Executive TfL Pension Fund

Retirement Announcement: Stephen Field - Director of Pensions and Chief Executive TfL Pension Fund

After a total of 21 years of dedicated service to Transport for London, covering two periods of employment, Stephen Field will be retiring on 29 May 2026.

Stephen has been an integral part of TfL, with the last 18 years spent at the helm of the TfL Pension Fund. His leadership, expertise, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in shaping the Fund’s success and stability. Stephen’s deep knowledge and guidance have earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues across the organisation and beyond.

When Stephen rejoined TfL back in January 2008, the TfL Pension Fund had assets under management of just over £3bn. Today that number has grown to over £15bn and Stephen has ensured that both the overall governance, strategy and in-house team have risen to the challenge of becoming one of the leading and largest UK defined pension schemes. From managing all stakeholders to the 86,000 members, Stephen has been at the forefront and been recognised over the years with numerous awards both personally and for the Fund as a whole.

Stephen will be sorely missed — not only for his professional contributions but also for his insight, integrity, and collaborative spirit. We are grateful for everything he has done for TfL and the Pension Fund, and we wish him all the very best in his well-earned retirement.

The recruitment process to find Stephen’s successor will begin immediately to ensure a smooth transition.

Please join us in celebrating Stephen’s career and in wishing him every happiness for the future.
